Reasonably Priced EV Luxury: The Q6 E-Tron Undercuts Competition

Less expensive than its German competitors, the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron offers 302 horsepower to control—422 HP if you get all-wheel-drive. RWD version gets 321-mile range.

Do you like the idea of a luxury, electric, midsize SUV in a Teutonic flavor, but the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV ($77,900), Porsche Macan Electric ($75,300) and the admittedly larger BMW iX ($87,250) are just a tad too rich for your blood? Audi would like a word with you, specifically about the all-new 2025 Q6 E-Tron. Closely related to the aforementioned Macan EV, the Q6 E-Tron starts at $63,800 (before $1,295 in destination fees).

At that entry price, you’ll get the Premium trim with rear-wheel drive, good for an EPA-estimated 321 miles of range from its 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack. That’s more range than any other Audi EV so far. That range requires the Ultra Package, a no-cost option, which includes low-rolling-resistance tires wrapped around 18-inch wheels (neither Audi nor the EPA have published driving range without the Ultra Package). With its single motor providing 302 horsepower — or up to 322 hp with launch control — Audi claims a respectable 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds.

What you get for the money

The Premium trim comes with standard features like LED lights, adaptive cruise control and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen. Moving up to Premium Plus ($68,600) adds goodies like an augmented reality head-up display, heated rear seats and heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. The top Prestige trim ($70,600) offers an adaptive air suspension and a 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen.

If you want all-wheel drive and more performance, the Q6 E-Tron Quattro starts at $65,800. Its dual motors produce a total of 422 hp (456 hp with launch control), sending it to 60 mph in a brisk 4.9 seconds. Of course, you’ll trade some driving range for the privilege, with the Q6 E-Tron Quattro rated at 307 miles with the standard 19-inch wheels, or 295 miles with 20-inchers.

If you want outright performance, efficiency be damned, there is also the Audi SQ6 E-Tron Quattro. It starts at $72,900 for the Premium trim, and goes up to a still-palatable $79,300 for the range-topping Prestige. With 483 hp, or 509 hp with launch control, 0-60 happens in just 4.1 seconds. Though quicker, you might not get to your destination any faster — with a driving range of only 275 miles, you’ll need to plug in more frequently. The SQ6 also gets 20- or 21-inch wheels capping red brake calipers, a sport version of the adaptive air suspension, sport seats and carbon fiber inlays.

Speaking of plugging in, Audi aims to make it as painless as possible with its 800-volt charging architecture and battery management technology. At a DC charger capable of such output, the Q6 E-Tron Quattro can achieve a peak charging rate of 270 kilowatts (260 kW for RWD models), putting it among the fastest-charging EVs available. Audi says its battery can charge from 10-80% in 21 minutes. The Q6 also uses Plug & Charge technology, making for a seamless payment experience at participating chargers. It also comes with a year of free DC charging on the Electrify America network. At home, the Q6 can charge at up to 9.6 kW on a Level 2 charger, but an optional onboard charger upgrade available in the future will bring that up to 19.2 kW.

conclusion

The Q6 E-Tron marks the beginning of a good thing for Audi, as it’s the first of the brand underpinned by the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE). Shared with Porsche, the scalable PPE platform is also the foundation for the Porsche Macan Electric, and will go into more Audi and Porsche EVs soon. Combined with new electric motors with improved efficiency, Audi is starting to help overcome barriers to EV adoption, like range anxiety, slow charging and inconvenient payment methods. And, considering how competitively the Audi Q6 and SQ6 E-Tron are priced, I won’t be surprised to see it outsell its rivals.
