Epic Performance! Check out this New AMG GT

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance brings a whole new meaning to the Plug-in hybrid category.

This is the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance. A mega hybrid sports car with V-8 muscle and oodles of tech. It comes off the back of the new for 2024, second-generation AMG GT. The 63 S E Performance takes the top-line car and adds lessons from Formula 1 powertrains.

Check out these E Performance stats: 805 horsepower. 1047 lb.-ft of torque. It takes a mere 2.7 seconds to reach 60 mph from rest, and, if you keep your foot in it, you’ll eventually see 199 mph on the speedometer.

Mega Powertrain

To get these beautifully bonkers numbers, AMG starts with its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, which contributes a mighty 603 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft of torque to the equation. From there, AMG took inspiration from the F1 team and mounted an electric drive unit on to the rear axle.

The electric drive unit incorporates an electric motor, which makes a peak 201 HP on its own. It also includes a two-speed transmission and limited-slip rear differential. All of that directly bolts to the rear-axle.

However, the E Performance is AWD. And the system configuration allows electric power to also drive the front wheels. It’s a highly flexible system. According to Mercedes, the V-8 mates with a nine-speed automatic transmission of its own and can also power all four wheels.

But back to the hybrid bit. First, it’s actually a plug-in hybrid. Mounted above the rear axle lies a 6.1kWh battery pack. It’s a 400-volt pack made up of 560 individual lithium-ion cells. Mercedes calls it the AMG high-performance battery.

Tech Heavy Chassis

With all of that mite and technology baked into the powertrain, it’s no surprise that Mercedes gives you eight different drive modes (Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport+, RACE”, and Individual) and four different energy recouperation levels to choose from while driving. By the way, highest level provides one-pedal driving, according to Mercedes.

To Keep up with the powertrain, the E Performance gets a high-tech chassis, too. And all of it is standard equipment. It starts with adaptive shock absorbers, called active ride control. Mercedes also incudes 48-volt adaptive anti-roll bars called active roll stabilization and rear axle steering.

To slow all this down, Mercedes installed standard carbon ceramic brakes: 16.5-inch discs up front, 15.0-inches at the rear. You’ll see those through the spokes of standard 20-inch wheels, but 21s are optional if you want bigger.

The E Performance also incorporates active aero elements to keep everything planted. Up front a carbon element lowers 1.6-inches, once you reach 50 mph, to mitigate any front axle-lift. In back, a rear spoiler integrated into the trunk lid chooses between one of five different angles to suit the drive mode and several other factors to handle the road properly.

Purposeful Interior

Inside, Mercedes did include at least a bit luxury. For example, you get AMG sport seats that offer plenty of lateral support and three different massaging programs.

Finally, Mercedes offers its Manufaktur signature program for this latest AMG GT to customize as you see fit.

Expect the Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance to arrive in the U.S. in late 2024.

Mercedes will announce details like price and fuel economy closer to that date. Rest assured, this car will not be cheap. I expect a price well north of $200,000, probably around a quarter of a million dollars. But, wow, who cares, this thing is cool! I’ll definitely keep a close eye for more news and will share as soon as I learn more.
