Charged Up! New EV Porsches On the Way!

The second generation, all electric Porsche Macan EV just received two new trims: the base, rear-wheel-drive Macan, and the mid-pack, all-wheel-drive Macan 4S.

Porsche just announced two new trims added to the Macan EV line-up: the base, rear-wheel-drive Macan, and the mid-pack, AWD Macan 4S. These supplement the already announced Macan 4 and Macan Turbo models for the smaller Porsche SUV.

The RWD Macan still uses the 100-kWh battery pack, just like the rest of the line-up. And it uses the same rear motor of the Macan 4, pumping out 335 HP. However, when using launch control, this base Macan temporarily makes 355 HP and 415 lb.-ft of torque, using an over boost feature. Porsche says it will reach 60 mph in 5.4-seconds and eventually hit 136 mph.

It also weighs 243 fewer pounds than the Macan 4, thanks to the lack of drive motor up front. As a result, I bet it will enjoy improved turn-in response. In fact, the base Macan may very well handle the best as well.

The Macan 4S, on the other hand, has the same front motor as the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. But its rear axle motor is unique. Altogether, you get 443 HP and short bursts of 510 HP, with overboost. During that time, you also get 578 lb.-ft of torque.

With launch control, the 4S will reach 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and, if you keep your right foot down, will carry on to 149 mph. By the way, that slots neatly between the 0-60 times of the Macan 4, 4.9 seconds, and Macan Turbo, 3.1 seconds.

And these new trims carry 800-volt systems, just like the others. Porsche says they will charge from 10-80 percent in 21 minutes.

The Macan 4S will also offer tons of goodies as options, like Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and rear-axle steering. Adaptive air suspension is standard equipment.

There is also a new Off-Road Design Package, which Porsche will offer on all Macan EVs. With it, you get a unique front bumper, which increases approach angle to a still modest 17.5-degrees.

You also get an additional 0.4-in of ground clearance, from 7.6-8.8 inches, depending on your adaptive air suspension setting, instead of 7.2 to 8.4 inches.

Inside, you’ll see a plenty of screens, just like the other Macan EVs, including a 10.9-in passenger display and more.

In terms of cost, the RWD Macan does slot in as the least expensive, starting at $77,295. The Macan 4S starts at $86,895, not much more than the Macan 4.

There you have it, now four different versions of the second generation, all electric Porsche Macan. Porsche is following a path similar to the Taycan here. And I must say I do appreciate having a RWD option here as well. Could be fun! And, of course, as soon as I get the chance to review one, I will share.
